The Shiroiya hotel, a captivating new art and culinary destination located in the Japanese city of Maebashi, designed by Sou Fujimoto, is comprised of two parts. The ‘heritage tower’, a renovated building dating back to the 1970s and the ‘green tower’, a heavily contrasting mound of an organic structure covered in shrubs and trees.
Responsible for both parts of the hotel as well as their interiors, Sou Fujimoto renovated the original structure by removing the floors and exposing the rough concrete surfaces. Externally, visitors are welcomed by the artwork of Lawrence Weiner.
The Heritage Tower contains 17 rooms, with many of them designed by creative minds from around the world. Fujimoto incorporates greenery and a sense of minimalism. Each guest room exhibits unique artwork by local and international artists such as Hiraku Suzuki and Ryan Gander.
